End of the Year Time Capsule Activity

Make a time capsule for a fun end of the year activity with your students. It can be used as an end of the year project or a fun New Year’s activity. Read on for more ideas.

It’s the end of the school year and most teachers are in the home stretch. Summer’s right around the corner and we can already smell it in the air. But school isn’t over yet. There are still plans to write and lessons to teach.

Fear not. I have a few fun activities to help you through the last few weeks of school (some are free!). Hang in there.

We tend to reflect on our school year accomplishments as the last day approaches. I created a Time Capsule Project as a fun way to create a memoir for students.

How to Make a Time Capsule

You can make a time capsule with a 2 liter soda bottle like I did, or use a shoebox, a Pringles can, or even a paper towel roll. Have your students write about themselves and the types of things they’re into at the moment. Add in some drawings and other writing samples and seal it up. There you go, a Time Capsule Project that will be treasured for years to come.

And trust me, they’ll crack you up with their ideas of what life will be like 30 years from now. According to my son, at age 38, one can expect to have a long grey beard. Oh, and what did he draw them them doing?

Digging….a grave. Ahem. I suddenly feel old.

A Time Capsule Resource with Everything You Need for an End of the Year Activity

No thinking required. Just print and go. My Time Capsule Project includes a differentiated letter (3 levels) that students can write to their future selves. It also includes pages that they can describe themselves and set goals for the future.

It’s a really fun project and is perfect for the end of the school year. I highly recommend creating Time Capsules with your students! It’ll be one of the school projects they keep forever.
